Lindsey Kowalke began teaching at Lincoln Lutheran in the fall of 2007. She teaches English and Religion in the middle school, and helps Mrs. Burger coach the Blue Angels Dance Team. Outside of school, she enjoys exercising, reading, time with family, Bible study and relaxing.
Mrs. Kowalke grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was the youngest of four children. She was a very busy child and participated in dance for 20 years, played basketball and volleyball, played piano, and sang. She attended Trinity Lutheran and Lincoln Lutheran, then graduated from Southeast High School. After high school, she attended UNL where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Education and her Master of Secondary Teaching. Prior to coming to Lincoln Lutheran, Mrs. Kowalke has taught at Garside Junior High School in Las Vegas, Nevada; Canarelli Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada; and St. John’s Lutheran in Orange, California. She has been married for seven years to her husband Mike, who is a chiropractor in Lincoln. They have a fish named Laguna.
Mrs. Kowalke came to Lincoln Lutheran because she wanted to continue teaching in a Lutheran School. Her favorite thing about teaching here is that it feels like home because she can talk about Jesus freely and also because she went here for junior high. Her funniest memory of teaching is when she was reading ‘Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry’ aloud to her 6th grade students, and she had a slip of the tongue during a very serious part of the book. Everyone burst out laughing so much that it was hard to get herself and the class under control.
