Don Duitsman currently serves as the Athletic Director at Lincoln
Lutheran Middle/High School. He began his service at Lincoln Lutheran
in January of 1985. Before coming here he taught at various different
schools, including St. Paul Lutheran in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Zion
Lutheran in Hastings, Nebraska. He received his education at Concordia
University in Seward, NE and received his Masters Degree at St. Francis
College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
He grew up in Linn, Kansas, which is a small town of about 400 people,
and has two sisters, Carol and Kristin. His father sold life insurance
for Aid Association of Lutherans and his mother served as a
stay-at-home mom. Regardless of not growing up on a farm he led a farm
lifestyle. He was a member of FFA and 4-H and had plenty of animals
around—“cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, sheep and a cow or two.”
Mr. Duitsman is married to Linda and they have four children: David,
Tim, Mark and Jenny. His wife is a registered nurse at Bryan LGH
hospital. David and his wife, Kristin, live in Boca Raton, Florida; Tim
and his wife Jenny, have two sons, Joshua and Jacob, and they live here
in Lincoln; Mark and his wife, Abbie, live in Denver, Colorado; and
Jenny, planning a July 5, 2008, wedding, also lives in Lincoln.
He came to Lincoln Lutheran Middle/High School because “As we traveled
back and forth from Kansas to Indiana we often thought about how great
it would be to someday be closer to family and maybe live in Lincoln.
After being offered the Principal's job in Hastings and taking that
position for several years, a position at Lincoln Lutheran was
available and I accepted the offer. Lincoln has been a great place to
raise a family and Lincoln Lutheran is a wonderful place for a solid
education. It has been an amazing road growing from a small junior high
school to now, a class C1 NSAA Middle/High School.”
Mr. Duitsman does what he does because he has a passion for it. “To
teach, coach, and just observe students as they participate and grow in
their education and activities (music, drama, speech, sports, etc.) is
what it is all about.”
In his free time he enjoys sports (watching and playing), playing cards
and board games, shooting pool and “believe it or not,” watching
reality television shows.
