High School Girls Basketball

The 2006-2007 girls basketball team included 15 strong, willing and amazing girls who set team and individual records. The seniors (Molly Millard, Lauryn Nyhoff, Jamie Sanchez and Steph Wilcox) capped off their careers with a record of 18 wins and 4 losses. To their credit, they reaped the benefits of all the hard work they put in these last four years. They were extremely driven to be the best they could be as individuals and as a team. They had expectations and dreams and they did everything possible to fulfill them. The four seniors as well as three juniors (BreAnna Haessler, Molly Humlicek and Angela Kuca) and three freshmen (Kayla Asche, Lydia Pomerenke and Amy Swearer) represented the varsity squad. Other team members included two sophomores (Savannah Dolezal and Rebecca Erks) and three freshmen (Nakita Dolezal, Karlee Nuttelman and Megan Schultz) who made up the junior varsity, reserve and freshman teams.

The season's theme was Endure based on Romans 8:18, "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

This team won the season opening Hastings College Tournament, the Lincoln Lutheran Holiday Tournament and C1-1 Subdistricts. They were undefeated at home winning all ten home games. They won the regular season conference games vs Columbus Scotus, Hastings St. Cecilia, David City Aquinas, Lincoln Christian and Grand Island Central Catholic. They made it to the semi-finals of the conference tournament. At the end of the season they were ranked seventh by the Lincoln Journal Star and eighth by the Omaha World Herald. They made 22 free throws vs Auburn. They made 14 of 15 free throws vs Syracuse. They had 20 assists vs Lincoln Christian. They averaged 55.6 points per game. They shot 39.6 % from the field, 27.9 % from behind the 3 point arc and 67.8 % from the free throw line.

Again, the upcoming season appears to be small in numbers of players, but strong in heart, hustle and determination. Watch this year as this young team improves from game to game and builds on the success of last year. Rest assured that we will be a team that is noticed.
