High School Cheerleading
The role of the Lincoln Lutheran Cheerleading Squad is to support the athletic teams as well as promote and encourage good sportsmanship and school spirit in a Christian manner. Cheerleaders do this through example, leadership, and service. The 2007-2008 Varsity squad includes two sophomores, Kersten Smith and Taylar Mason, who serve as captains. The five freshmen that complete the squad are Ashley Brozek, Ashley Dudycha, Emma Hybl, Taylor Kathe, and Taylor Wild. The Lincoln Lutheran cheerleaders put in a great deal of work throughout the school year and summer. Following tryouts in March, the cheerleaders begin by choosing uniforms and selecting a camp for the summer. The squad practices throughout the summer to prepare for camp and concentrate on learning and practicing cheers and chants for the upcoming sports seasons. Their focus is on positive crowd involvement and showing the Lincoln Lutheran athletic teams how much their fans support them. The cheerleaders will make signs throughout the year to encourage those participating in activities. They will continue practicing twice a week, plan the Homecoming pep rally and spirit week themes, and hope to plan additional pep rallies to give recognition to all Lincoln Lutheran activities. The squad cheers at football, volleyball, and basketball games. This summer the Varsity squad held a private camp through the National Cheerleaders Association at Lincoln Lutheran. During this time, the squad was able to improve their technique, learn new cheers and chants, and bond as a group. Also this summer, the squad participated in fundraisers to help pay for uniform and camp costs. The girls held a carwash and worked at Ribfest along with the dance team. The theme for the 2007-2008 school year is "Spreading the Spirit". This comes from Job 32:18, "For I am full of words, and the spirit within me compels me." This represents the squad goal of increasing school spirit and support for our activities. Participating in Lincoln Lutheran cheerleading puts students in a position to be leaders, communicators, and active members of our school and community. The cheerleaders build self-confidence and learn the value of teamwork.
