High School Dance Team
In July, they attended dance camp at the University of Nebraska - Kearney. They performed a team routine for which they received a superior rating and took first place out of all the teams at camp. This qualifies the Blue Angels to perform at the National Dance Team Championships held in Florida in early February! They learned many new routines throughout camp and during their final performance of these routines they were awarded 24 individual superior ratings and an overall superior team trophy. They also won the team "Drill Down" trophy, three "Spirit Sticks," and the "Rock Star" Award. Individually, Kaitlin Heibel and Bethany Garbe were both recognized as All-Stars and earned the opportunity to perform in events such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The team does the majority of their fundraising activities during the summer to help pay for their uniforms and accessories. They run a fireworks stand and help at RibFest. They also sell concessions at Cornhusker State Games and Midget football games. During the school year, the team performs during half-time of all the home football and basketball games. They also perform at various dance shows and competitions. Each spring the team holds a dance clinic for second through fifth grade girls. These girls then have the opportunity to perform at the Blue Angels Dance Show. This is the culmination of the Blue Angels season when they perform all the routines they learned throughout the year. This year's team consists of three seniors: Bethany Garbe, Kaitlin Heibel and Abbie Kuehn. They are joined by three sophomores: Sarah Lohmeyer, Jessica Polk and Allison Schmeling. Completing the team are six freshmen: Samantha Heibel, Jenna Karlin, Molly Kenow, Paige Orth, Jami Watts and Taylor Wild. The Blue Angels are coached by Lisa Burger.
