High School Girls Soccer
Finishing the 2007 season, the Lady Warriors played one of their
toughest schedules playing five of the eight teams that went to the
state tournament (Elkhorn, Omaha Skutt, Pius, Gretna and Columbus
Scotus). It has become obvious to the soccer community that the Lady
Warriors have developed a strong, Christ-centered program.
The Lady Warriors team was established in the Spring of 2002, finishing with a 5 - 4 record, but missed going to state via wild card by losing to Beatrice 2 - 0 at districts. Over the years, they have experienced many exciting moments from their very first win in 2002 against Valley in a double overtime, PK shoot-out (3-2) to a gut-wrenching loss at the State Tournament in 2005 against Omaha Skutt, a double overtime, PK shoot-out (1-2) decision. The Warriors have made two state tournament appearances and reaching the district finals in 2005 and 2007. Several players have been recruited by division one and two universities and will continue to play at the next level. Jamie Sanchez, a 2007 graduate, became the first player in the program's history to commit to a division one university. Jamie committed to the University of Nebraska will be wearing a Husker uniform this fall while graduates Molly Hein, Molly Millard and Stephanie Wilcox will continue to play at local universities. The team's mission is to raise the Christian platform, playing in a way that honors Him. Academics have always been an integral part of the program's success. For the fourth year in a row, the Lady Warriors earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas Team Academic Award with a team GPA of 3.6 for outstanding work in the classroom. They were the only high school program in Nebraska to have won this award four years straight. They have worked hard to establish a presence in the Lincoln community and are involved in several community projects. They help out with the YMCA camps, visit grade schools and provide assistance at the summer Lincoln Lutheran Soccer Camp for Lincoln's youth. As the Warriors move into the 2007-08 school year, they will continue to work hard with a goal to return to the state tournament. It will be one of the youngest teams to wear warrior uniforms with an estimated 22 freshmen and sophomores going into the 2008 season. The Warriors will be lead by Seniors Molly Humlicek (four year starter), Anna Cloeter and BreAnna Haessler. While sophomores Amy Swearer and Kayla Asche will provide anchors for a young and talented defensive. The stage is set and the program will continue on its traditional theme of playing clean, physical soccer with a humble attitude. The Lady Warriors are coached by John Kolar (head coach, NSCAA Advanced National and Goalkeeper II Licenses) and assistants Katie Bockelman, Mark Pankoke (NSCAA National License), Dave Gosselin (NSCAA Advanced National and Goalkeeper II Licenses) and Marty Hein (Middle School Coach).
