Speech & Drama

Drama

Students at Lincoln Lutheran are provided opportunities throughout the school year in the area of drama. There are two productions each year. In the Fall, there is a one act play that is taken to Conference and District competition. In the Spring, students either participate in a full length play or a musical.

For example, during the 2006-2007 school year, Lincoln Lutheran students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of Drama activities, many of them being "firsts" for the school. In the fall, students could participate in two one-act plays. "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet" and "The Flattering Word" were performed at the beginning of November in conjunction with the Senior Class Play: "Blazing Guns at Roaring Gulch". "The Flattering Word" was taken to conference and district competition for the first time in school history, where the students performed competitively within their division.

In the spring, both middle and high school students could participate in another first, the murder mystery dinner theater entitled "A Fatal Combination".

In 2007-2008, students could participate in either "The Lottery" or "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"

A drama club was also started for students to participate in to refine their theater skills as well as volunteer in and outside the school.

Speech

Forensics is a unique extra curricular activity designed to train students in public speaking and drama. The speech season begins in late August and continues through March when the state competition is held in Kearney, Nebraska. Throughout the season, students select their material from monologues or play books, write their own speeches and perform at high school meets in Lincoln and surrounding cities.

In the speech season of 2005-2006, 4 students found success at the district competition and qualified for the state tournament. These students were Bobby Brown and Abbie Kuehn in duet acting, Renee Pflughaupt in serious prose and informative speaking and Leah Hollibaugh in informative speaking. Each student placed with high ratings in both rounds.

Participating in speech at Lincoln Lutheran is a great opportunity for students to excel in public speaking and develop skills that will help them in their college and career pursuits. While developing these useful skills, many students will find great friends in their teammates and make memories that will last a lifetime.
