Warrior Speech Team Shows Improvement

The Warrior Speech team competed on Saturday with 23 other schools. Many of the schools were class A and 3 were AA from Omaha.  Tanner Bohlender and Andrew Malan cut finals and ended up  8th out of 33 entries in Duet Acting.  Elisa Hutchinson took 2nd and 3rd in her rounds, and was 12th out of 28 entries. Several of our novice speakers continue to improve - Ben Kunz and Victoria Kenow and Hannah Bell.  Elizabeth Kuhn, trying poetry for the first time this year, was 18th out of 36 entries and took a first place in one of her rounds.

The team competes this Saturday in Conference at Grand Island Central Catholic.  This is a good opportunity for the team as the playing field will be more equal.

Speech Team Ditches School

On Friday, January 29th, the Speech Team left school at the end of 6th period and headed out to Norris High School for its second meet of the season. The team fielded 18 entries - compared with 2 last year.  The meet was 'open class' and was attended by at least 3 powerhouse Class A schools.  Most Class A and Class B schools have advanced speech class and each day speech team members can use the class to practice. We do not have such a class at LLHS and rely on before and after school times to practice.  So we're at a bit of a disadvantage. We are also a young team.   That said, many of our first timers are improving each time they speak. Noticeable this meet were Ben Kunz  (Ben received a superior 47/50 in one round) and the duet of Victoria Kenow and Hannah Bell (these 2 freshmen just missed finals and scored in the superior range both times!).  First time speakers this week included Katie Rathje and Jordan Lewis. In very tight rounds, the OID of Lyz Kuhn, Taylor Katt, Natalie Griese and Jenna Karlin barely missed cutting finals - which is saying something considering the competition.

Speech Team Has First Outing

LLHS Speech Team members participated in their first meet of the year.  Many novice speakers did well, earning positive comments and constructive critiques.  The OID team of Lyz Kuhn, Taylor Katt, Jenna Karlin and Natalie Griese just missed cutting finals.  Freshman Tanner Bohlender and Senior Andrew Malan cut finals in duet acting and took 3rd out of 6th finalists.  The OID team of Matt Eames, Tyler Nicholas and Tori Miller cut finals and took 3rd out of 4 finalists.  The team had a strong showing for its first meet and next week will get to hone its skills at Lincoln Northeast.  Many thanks to Mrs. Bohlender for the treats she brought!

Speech Meet Cancelled for Saturday

This Saturday's speech meet has been cancelled due to many team members inability to attend.  The next meets are a go (weather permitting) and are: Concordia 1/23, Lincoln East 1/30, Crete 2/6, Grand Island (Conference) 2/13, York 2/22 (We will miss a school day), Districts 2/27 at Schulyer Central High.
