It's getting closer to our second Middle School Fun Night, and we would like to thank everyone who helps make these nights successful and also to say thank you to everyone who has expressed their appreciation for the fun nights. This year, our second Fun Night is march 5th:
- Fun night will start at 6:30pm and end at 10:00pm. Parents can, of course, pick their children up early as needed. You might see references to 6:00 - 10:30 occationally; these are the times are for the people running Fun Night, not the middle school students.
- We will be serving pizza. We know how busy a Friday night can be; if you're pressed for time, you don't have to cook before you drop off your middle school student. Students will receive enough tickets so that they can "purchase" 2-3 pieces of pizza without buying any additional tickets. Additional tickets are $0.25 each, and a slice of pizza will cost 3 tickets.
- The admission charge will once again be $10.00 per student if you signup in advance and $20.00 if you pay at the door.
- We'll be making some effort to ensure that the two "biggest" attractions of fun night (the dance and the dodgeball tournament) are not mutually exclusive. The dodgeball tournament will begin at 6:30 and run until approximately 9:00. The dance will start at approximately 7:00 and run until 10:00. Overheard at a 2007 fun night, "There's no one to dance with! All our men are playing dodgeball."
For those of you who haven't been to a fun night before, we'll be sending home a permission slip the week before Fun Night that has all of the relevant information. But in brief, here's how they work:
The event is only open to Lincoln Lutheran students and is a closed event (once students leave they can not reenter). During the evening there will be several activities that, for the most part, are available to all students all evening. The events vary somewhat from fun night to fun night, below are the ones that are consistent from fun night to fun night.
- Dance: We go over proper dance etiquette in Access Class the week before so that everyone knows how to act.
- Dodgeball Tournament: Teams of 6 signup the week before fun night and participate in a double elimination tournament.
- Game Room: Board games and card games are available or you can bring in your own games.
- Arcade: Play Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution and various Wii sports games on a twelve foot by twelve foot screen.
- Concession Stand: Pizza, snacks and soda are available in the concession stand. Prices are one ticket for snacks or soda and three tickets for a slice of pizza. Students are given 12 tickets to start with, and may purchase additional tickets for $0.25 each.
- Open Gym: During the first round or two of the dodgeball tournament we will run two games at once, but after that half of the gym is opened up for various other activities.
If you have any questions about fun night, feel free to ask any of the middle teachers.
