Students Build Websites

Twenty Lincoln Lutheran students built websites this semester as part of the class Multimedia Applications. Starting from scratch, students learned HTML tags and used them to create a website on the topic of their choice. Topics varied widely, ranging from Camp Luther to Helthy Snacks to Warrior Basketball. You can see all twenty websites at www.llstudents.org.

In the past we've used the free service Geocities to build student websites, but after Geocities closed last summer we had to try something else. Having an actual domain name and using an FTP program to move files has made the whole experience very realistic. Students were excited at the number of people who visited their websites.

Students who have an interest in designing websites can take the semester long class Website Design where we go through each step of creating a working, interactive website. From picking a domain name and hosting company to deciding on a content management system, all aspects of running a website are covered. Website Design class is only offered every other semester, so plan ahead.

Technology Flea Market on Saturday, May 15th

Lincoln Lutheran's semi annual Technology Flea Market will be held this Saturday, May 15th from 9:00am until 2:00pm. You'll be able to purchase used, but functional, computer equipment priced to move. This year we will also have items from Messiah Lutheran, so the selection will be bigger than ever.

As we continue to upgrade the equipment available to Lincoln Lutheran students, we use our annual Technology Flea Market to put out older equipment into the hands of students, faculty and community members. Much better than putting it in a landfill.

This year we will have complete computer systems for sale for under $30.00; this includes the computer, a monitor, keyboard and mouse. We have Macintosh, Windows and Linux computer systems available. Prices for computer systems will vary based on the speed of the computer, the amount of storage on the computer and the quality of the monitor. Come early for the best selection.

We will also have several servers available if you're into that sort of thing. An older quad processor IBM Netfinity 550 and a newish (about a year old)  IBM x-series 226.

Executive Summary:

Mrs. Julie Stahr

Julie Stahr began teaching at Lincoln Lutheran Middle/Senior High School in 2004. She previously taught at Irving Junior High and Waverly Junior High. Her favorite thing about teaching here is the great kids and the small size of our school. Mrs. Stahr grew up in Benkelman, NE with her mom, dad and two brothers, Jim and Mitch. She now lives in Lincoln with her husband, Greg. They have four children, Margeaux, Elke, Dane, and Quinn, and she has a grandson, Koston. Mrs. Stahr decided to teach at Lincoln Lutheran because of the Christian environment where she can pray and talk about her faith. Her children also attend Lincoln Lutheran and this makes Mrs. Stahr feel more connected to what her kids are doing because she is a part of their school. Other than teaching, she also helps out with middle school football paperwork. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her friends and family and enjoys scrapbooking.

Mrs. Lisa Burger

Lisa Burger began teaching at Lincoln Lutheran in 2005. She teaches business, math, and computer classes. She grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska with her parents and two older brothers. She was in the first graduating class of Lutheran High Northeast and then attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. In 2005 she married Ryan, who works as a CPA for the State Auditor’s Office. Mrs. Burger came to Lincoln Lutheran because her husband was already working in Lincoln, and she knew she wanted to teach in a Lutheran school. This position became available, she took it, and it turned out to be a perfect fit. Besides teaching, she coaches the Blue Angels Dance Team and helps coach middle school volleyball. Her favorite thing about teaching here is that she gets to work in a Christian environment and she loves getting to know the students and the people she works with. Mr. Lloyd Sommerer

Lloyd Sommerer began teaching at Lincoln Lutheran in 2001. He graduated from college at Concordia, Seward with degrees in education and computer science. His first teaching position was in Washington D.C. where he taught seventh and eighth graders. Mr. Sommerer grew up on a small farm in Missouri where his family grew tobacco and had beef cattle. His family now consists of his wife Lauren and two cats. One of the cats is dumb and the other is mean. He came to Lincoln Lutheran because Mrs. Pester, a former Lincoln Lutheran middle school teacher, told him that Lincoln Lutheran was looking for a math teacher. Everything he was teaching in D.C. was the same thing at Lincoln Lutheran, even one of the same books. He believes that it is a God thing that he is here today. His favorite part of teaching at Lincoln Lutheran is that he gets to do a lot of different things and there are some really neat students. Besides teaching, he also is the technology coordinator and the Fantasy Baseball Commissioner, which he considers his most important role. In his free time he reads books, works on websites, and plays video games.
