an important goal of the reading program is to develop the students' understanding of and use of strategies so they may broaden their prior knowledge, improve comprehension, and enjoy their reading experience. The teacher will help the students use Before Reading Strategies to activate past knowledge and experiences such as: brainstorming, predicting/support, skim/previewing, posing questions, and teaching vocabulary (i.e. context clues, prefixes, suffixes). During Reading Strategies will enable students to make personal connections to other texts. There strategies include skimming, rereading, questioning, visualizing, evaluating and adjusting, making predictions, reflecting, inferring, note taking, and summarizing. Students will also be introduced to figurative language terms, literary terms, story plot triangle and genre terms.
