    Linda (Sayer) Ahrens

Linda Ahrens (Sayer) is a 1983 graduate of Lincoln Lutheran Junior High. She went on to attend both Lincoln Northeast High School (’86) and Concordia University, NE (’90) where she received a degree in Elementary Education. After serving one year as the preschool director at Cathedral in Lincoln, Linda served Zion Lutheran, Hastings from 1992-2004. She was then called to serve Good Shepherd Lutheran in Lincoln, for one year as a preschool teacher and the next 12 years as Principal/Teacher of the day school. Linda recently relocated to NW Missouri to support her husband’s job change and currently serves as a 1st Grade Teacher in Trenton, MO.

Linda has always been active in the ministry of her church. She has served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, VBS Director and coordinator as well as a teacher for many years.  She has also sung in the adult choir and in a special women’s vocal group, participated in Bible studies on Sunday mornings in addition to small group studies outside of the church and in the community.  While serving as Principal of Good Shepherd she was responsible for all aspects of administration including policy development, marketing, and working with the school board (along with her teaching responsibilities). She served 11 years on the LCMS Nebraska District Nominations Committee.  She has also served as an advocate for the children who have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Linda stated her education at Lincoln Lutheran helped prepare her for life in the following ways: “By showing not only myself, but others, life can be a very difficult road ahead and many obstacles will be thrown in our way even when we are young.  It is not those around us who give value to our life, but it is God, our Father and Creator, who has given the gift of His Son Jesus, and left the Holy Spirit to call, gather and enlighten the Christian Church.”

When asked what some of her favorite memories from Lincoln Lutheran were, Linda shared: “I enjoyed my time participating on the basketball and volleyball teams.  I remember the connection many of the coaches (Mrs. MaryLou Roth and Mr. Paul Leckband) made with their players, as they encouraged us to play our best and use the talents God had given us.”

When asked what advice she would share with current Lincoln Lutheran students, Linda replied:  “You may not know what you want to be doing in the future, but God knows where He wants you.  He prunes and molds us each and every day, whether we like it or not; calling us to reflect and show forth His glory and not ours.  So no matter what events and obstacles God puts before you, follow Him, He knows where He wants you and then asks you to ‘bloom wherever you may be planted and trust in Him.’”

Linda and her husband Gary (also a LLJHS graduate) make their home in Trenton, MO. They are blessed with three adult children, Kelsey (LLHS ‘09) and Lesley (LLHS ‘12) and Haley (East ’17).
