The One Million Pillowcase Challenge

by MaKayla Ptaschek

The One Million Pillowcase Challenge is a challenge in the United States to supply comfort to foster children, cancer patients, and victims of domestic violence. The first semester Sewing class decided help out with this cool challenge and donate 19 wonderfully made pillowcases. To this date, over 234,000 pillowcases have been donated to this challenge. Mrs. Carlson taught the students a new technique for making pillowcases that is fast, easy, and fun!

While they were helping with this project, a former LL teacher, Mary Schudel donated fabric to help the students make these amazing pillowcases. Along with the donation of the fabric, Schudel also came into the classroom and hung out with students for a day to see what they were transforming her fabric into. Several students enjoyed this project so much that they made additional pillowcases for their family and friends.
