2014 Distinguished Young Alumni Award

  Katie (Moore) Lyon

Katie Lyon is a 2000 graduate of Lincoln Lutheran High School. When asked how her education at Lincoln Lutheran prepared her for life, Katie said: “The teachers were one of a kind.  They were caring mentors who guided my learning and development of a strong moral and faith compass.”

Following her time at Lincoln Lutheran, Katie went on to attend St. Olaf College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in English and Family Studies. She then attended the University of Iowa earning a Master’s of Business Administration. After serving three years with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Cedar Rapids, IA, Katie took a position as the National Director of Campus Development for Gallup.

Service in the community is important to Katie.  She is a member of the Junior League of Minneapolis where she volunteers in a variety of capacities with an organization whose goal is to close student achievement gaps.  She has also served as a long-term mentor to three youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Katie is the daughter of Roger and Janice Moore. She and husband Mike reside in Minneapolis, MN and recently celebrated the birth of their first child, a daughter named Clara.  Katie is also joined today by Mark’s parents Mark and Deb Lyon.

Some of Katie’s favorite memories from Lincoln Lutheran include:  “I really enjoyed getting to be part of Lincoln Lutheran athletics from different perspectives: as a player, captain, fan and cheerleader.  I also enjoyed being a part of choir and science trips to Colorado, Texas, St. Louis and Washington D.C.  As a part of Student Council, I had the chance to play a role in planning social and service events like a homelessness awareness ‘lock-out.’  I even got to be a part of the first-ever prom.”

Her advice for current Lincoln Lutheran students, “Just soak up every opportunity you can to learn and grow.”
