2015 National Lutheran Schools Week off to a Great Start

The week of January 25-31, 2015 has been set apart by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod to give thanks to God for the gift of Lutheran Day Schools, begun by a small group of congregations back in 1847.  Today, there are over 2200 Lutheran schools and daycare centers serving over 221,000 students across the United States.  The theme for this year is "Mercy Forever", based on Mark 10:45.

The LL Student Council helped kick off the week with dress up days and a winter pep assembly on Monday, January 26.  Students arrived that morning in pajamas, and teachers celebrated the gift of breakfast items provided by a group of parents.  A winter sports/activities pep assembly gave the student body the opportunity to hear about the successes and goals for the remainder of the season of various LL activities.  Students had the unique opportunity to witness and congratulate senior Cassie Lewis as she signed her letter of intent with the Concordia dance team.  A highlight of the pep assembly was the class contest, a "dance-off" between members of each class and faculty.  By applause, senior Eivind Wirak was awarded the title of official dance-off champion.

Throughout the rest of the week, various dress-up days will give students and staff an opportunity to celebrate the gift of Lutheran Schools, especially Lincoln Lutheran.  As stated by StuCo officers senior Hannah Bassett and junior Kate Staab, it is easy to take for granted the gift of going to a school where one can receive an excellent education, yet keep the love of Jesus first in everything we do.  NLSW is a great week to remind us of that blessing.

Dress-up days for the rest of the week:  Tacky Tourist Tuesday, Western Wednesday, Black/White Thursday, High Fashion Friday
