Mr. Joshua Weishaar

Joshua Weishaar is the Vocal Music Director, and an assistant volleyball coach at Lincoln Lutheran. Other than teaching, Mr. Weishaar enjoys volleyball, woodworking, cooking, yard work, boating, and spending time with his wife. Mr. Weishaar is married to Kara, a Lincoln Lutheran alumni, and they live in Omaha, NE.

Jazz Band

Students continue to incorporate previously learned skills while learning new skills from the jazz and popular music idioms. Students continue to build fundamentals and are exposed to high-level musicianship concepts through a varied repertoire and ensemble experience. Students share gifts and contribute to the culture of the Lincoln Lutheran community by performing at several school and public events. Students experience a variety of modes in these settings. Large and small ensemble experiences are incorporated to equip students for music making beyond high school.

Mr. Michael Werner

Mr. Werner began teaching at Lincoln Lutheran in 2014. He and his wife Bethany are happy to serve at a school that is near family. Prior to Lincoln, the two lived in Louisville, Kentucky where Mr. Werner taught middle school band and Bethany served as a DCE for Our Savior Lutheran Church. Being brought up in Lutheran education, Michael is proud to serve the church as a teacher just like the rest of his family. Michael is also proudly the only Concordia University Chicago graduate on staff.

Mrs. Laura Stumpf

Laura Stumpf and her family are new to the Lincoln community as of July 2014.  They are most recently from the Indianapolis suburbs, and moved to Lincoln when her husband Andy accepted a Call to serve at Christ Lutheran as a DCE.  Their family also includes their three kids: Ethan, Emma, and Noah.

Middle School Chorus

This is a non-audition group which concentrates on proper vocal technique, fundamental musicianship, and the particular aspects of choral singing. A variety of styles of music, both sacred and secular, are examined and performed through the literature selected.

Course Text: Pearson, Bruce. Standard of Excellence: Comprehensive Band Method. Books 2 and 3. Students are educated through the course text to expand on previously learned playing and reading skills. This developmental period demands students accelerate their musical knowledge by increasing their range of pitches, rhythmic vocabulary, knowledge of scales, and proficiency with new key signatures. Application of mature musical concepts such as tone quality, phrasing, and nuance are also explored as students gain awareness and sensitivity.

Musicianship

This course is designed to develop individual musicianship skills through studying the elements of harmony, form, and style in music. Song-writing, arranging, composing and listening skills are learned and developed in this course. These elements of music are discussed through comparing and contrasting present day music styles with classical music forms. No previous musical training is required.

Students continue to build fundamentals and are exposed to high-level musicianship concepts through a varied repertoire and ensemble experience. Students share gifts and contribute to the culture of the Lincoln Lutheran community by performing at several school and public events. Students experience a variety of performance modes in these settings.
