Health covers the different aspects of physical, mental, spiritual, and social health, and how these aspects affect each persons overall well being. The following areas will be taught over the course of the year: Mental & Social Health – mental disorders and suicide and building healthy peer relationships; Physical Fitness – movement and coordination; Substance Abuse – alcohol and preventing drug abuse; Human Development – reproduction and heredity.

The intent of the course is for students to improve their physical motor skills development levels, as well as their social development, emotional well-being, and team building through participation in their activities. The units will include flag football, basketball, dance/cardio, and speedball. The students will also work on their cognitive development through knowledge of the rules, techniques, and strategies throughout the course.

The intent of the course is for students to improve their physical fitness and motor skills development levels, as well as their social development and teamwork through participation in their activities. The units will include soccer, volleyball, physical fitness, and track & field. The students will also work on their cognitive development through knowledge of the rules of the game, and to develop a basic understanding of these activities. The concept that physical education is beneficial for everyone will be stressed in the hope that students will value their personal fitness.

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to develop weight training concepts and techniques used for obtaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from a personal weight training program as well as cardio-respiratory endurance activities. They will learn the fundamentals of weight training, strength training, core strength, as well as various cardio activities. Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet challenges, and develop positive behaviors in fitness, wellness, and movement activity for a lifetime.

This is an elective course in Physical Education. The emphasis of the course will be on Lifetime activities. The goal is for enhanced motor skills development along with the opportunity for social interactions. The students will be empowered to learn to develop positive behaviors in regard to their fitness lifestyles in their future years. Knowledge of the rules of the game in the various individual and dual activities will also be a focus of the class. Units include: Golf, Tennis, Badminton, Bowling, and archery.

Lifetime Fitness

All students are required to take 5 credits of Physical Education. Emphasis: This course is centered on dual and team sports as well as health-related fitness. Basic skill development, physical activity through participation, and knowledge of rules will be the focus of the class. All units will be taught and organized with coed involvement. Units include: field hockey, physical fitness, pickle ball, team handball, and floor hockey. Utilizes or incorporates circuit weight training two days a week.

Mrs. Sue Ziegler

Mrs. Ziegler began teaching at Lincoln Lutheran in 1991. Before she came to Lincoln Lutheran, she taught in Prior Lake, Minnesota and also coached at Minneapolis Lutheran and Concordia Academy. She grew up in Brownsdale, Minnesota and attended Hayfield High School. She went on to college at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she was on the Women's Basketball and Women's Track teams and earned her bachelors degree in P.E. and Health. She has two siblings, one brother and one sister.
