Members of our Student Council led the group in prayer and continued to lead the whole school in prayer at the beginning of each class period throughout the day. A special thank you to STUCO member Alex Halvorsen who sent out daily devotionals and did prayer requests from the student body throughout the week. It has been a wonderful blessing for us all. We hope everyone spends a little time in prayer today lifting up our country, community and family. God Bless!

On April 13th, two middle school robotics teams competed in the SKILLS USA - NEBRASKA STATE LEADERSHIP AND SKILLS CONFERENCE. The two teams competed in the Urban Search and Rescue competition. Students are required to construct a robot that can open mailboxes and doors as well as retrieve an ordinance and deposit the ordinance all while being timed. Students only use a camera and verbal cues to drive the robot. The first place team consisted of 8th grader Robert Schmidt and 7th grader Autumn Veen. These two Warriors have qualified to represent Nebraska and Lincoln Lutheran at the national conference later this summer. The team of 8th grader Isaac Hoffman and 7th grader Mikaela Crable came in a very close second place. Both teams did very well and were complimented on their attention to detail. This is just the 2nd year of SKILLS USA at Lincoln Lutheran. A special thank you to Mr. Ryan Crable who volunteered this year and helped build our robotics course, assisted students with the mouse trap cars, and answered technical questions about robotics.
On Saturday, April 24. Lincoln Lutheran 7th graders Konnor Bunjer, Thomas Cosgrove, and Haven Fornshell, their families, and teacher Lyle Ziems and his wife Sheila participated in the Walk For Freedom Again march sponsored by the I’ve Got a Name organization. These young Warriors and their families are to be commended for voicing their concern for this cause through their participation in this event. I’ve Got A Name became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2012. Since its inception, the organization has played a significant role in changing the lives of hundreds of Nebraska women and girls trapped in the sex trade. The objective of the Walk for Freedom Again march was to bring public attention to Nebraska’s Sex Trafficking problem and, specifically, here in the Lincoln area. -The average age of a child entering the commercial sex trade is 13. - A 2016 research study conducted by Creighton University revealed that more than 900 girls are sold for sex (often multiple times) in Nebraska every month & 200 just in the Lincoln area. -1 out of every 250 high school and middle school students in Nebraska enter the commercial sex trade each year.
The Opportunity Scholarships Act (LB364) will soon be debated by the Nebraska Legislature, and Senators need to hear from you! LB364 increases scholarship opportunities for low-income families to attend the private school of their choice by enacting a tax credit for donations to nonprofit scholarship granting organizations. There are many families in your community and across the state who want the choice to send their kids to private or parochial school, but can’t because of financial obstacles. As Lutherans, we believe that parents have the right to choose a school for their children which corresponds to their own convictions and should have true liberty in their choice of schools. LB364 would give parents the freedom to choose faith-based education if they so desire. Take a moment to write to your senator and ask them to support LB364 by clicking here: https://www.votervoice.net/BroadcastLinks/SEz4X8aOCPX3BBiD-Ek9NA When communicating with your elected officials, it’s best to share your personal beliefs and experiences in your own words. Many Senators insist that personal and unique messages are the most effective. Some talking points have been included in the link to help you compose a message.

We weren't expecting to have to send this out quite this early in the year - but it looks like next week the weather may have some "surprises" in store. We wanted to remind you all how we will send out alerts in the case of an emergency school closure. You will receive a text message, an email alert, a push notification (through the app) and the info will be shared on our Website in the Live News stream. We will also share school closures on 10/11 news and Channel 8 - Look for the Lutheran Schools of Lincoln closure announcements. If you didn't receive a text message, contact the front desk at 402-467-5404 - we need an updated cell phone number! If you haven't downloaded the LL app - don't delay!

Don’t forget Picture Retake Day is Friday! If you need to retake your photo or if you missed the first Picture Day, be ready to take your picture first thing Friday morning. If you are re-taking make certain you bring back you picture packet to turn in.
For Thursday's Music Concerts, we do not have limitations on who can attend. We do ask you to remain masked the entire time you are in the building. We also ask that you stay with your group when you are sitting and try to space yourselves out. If you are NOT attending both concerts, please exit as soon as the concert is over - we can't have groups gathering to meet with students. Thank you!
We have slowly been moving towards "digital" programs. The reason for the change is in part due to issues with handing things to people and COVID. This also saves us A LOT of personnel time, paper and copy costs over the course of the year. Anyone with a smart phone can scan a QR code. The newest OS will automatically open your QR code reader if you focus your camera on the QR code. Any QR code reader should be able to read our codes. If you need a reliable QR code reader the top rated with iOS and Android is Kaspersky QR Scanner in the App store or QR Scanner in Google Play. Please note, the programs are saved as a .pdf - if you phone isn't able to open a .pdf, you will have issues. Please look for an App that will read .pdfs (most Android and iPhones have this feature built in). We ask that you keep the few copies of programs we will have available for those who don't have a smart phone. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please join the Lincoln Lutheran Music Department for the first concert of the season on Thursday, Oct. 22nd. The Middle School Music students will host their concert beginning at 6:30 pm and the High School students will host their concert beginning at 7:30 pm. No admission cost, but a free-will donation will be gathered to support the Music Department.
The LL annual "Food Fight" is going to have to look a little different this year. We still want to support the Food Bank of Lincoln, so instead of bringing canned food, the STUCO is sponsoring a "Coin Drive". Each class will have a container to fill with all your lose change. Bring those bills as well and put them in another classes jar - those bills count against that classes total! Let's be generous and show the community of Lincoln we care!

On Sunday, May 24, at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 military time), we encourage everyone in Lincoln to step outside or open their windows to cheer this year’s seniors. High school seniors will then be able to walk into their neighborhoods wearing their caps and gowns and hear the celebrations across the city.
Sports Camp Update: Along with the Governor's announcement earlier this week, the NSAA has provided guidelines as well. - As of June 1, weightroom use will be allowed. There will still be a limit of 10 people in a group. We are working on a plan that will include several groups working but in different spaces and not having interaction with each other. Those plans will be communicated when finalized. We are looking forward to having students back in here working out as soon as we are able and are committed to doing this in a safe manner. - All summer athletic camps, clinics, and open gyms for any sport are still prohibited. We are working with coaches on being prepared and having contingency plans if we are given the ok to have athletic camps and open gyms again. Ultimately, we must follow the guidelines of the NSAA. Here is the information from the NSAA: NSAA Update As a result of the Governor’s announcement on May 11, beginning June 1st NSAA member schools are permitted to open weight rooms for voluntary strength and conditioning sessions. Prioritizing the health and safety of all students and staff must remain the focus of each NSAA member school. These requirements must be followed when conducting voluntary strength and conditioning sessions: Maintain social distance by being 6 feet apart Follow gathering guidelines of groups of 10 or less students Groups of 10 or less must be pre-determined Once groups determined, students may not switch from one group to another Interaction between groups shall be avoided Sessions can only include weightlifting, running, and exercises designed to promote physical fitness. Sport-specific drills are not permitted, and sport-specific equipment may not be used. Implement diligent and effective cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched objects and surfaces following the guidance of the CDC It is the responsibility of each NSAA member school to comply with the above requirements. Additionally, NSAA member school sponsored camps, clinics and open gyms are prohibited in any sport at this time. Should the conditions warrant, these requirements will be adjusted. Any further official updates will be posted on the NSAA website and the NSAA social media platforms. Dear Parents, Students, and School Personnel, A little more than two weeks ago, your Lutheran Schools of Lincoln administrators met to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on our schools for the first time. Your teachers and staff quickly responded with learning resources for your child, full of hope that we would return to campus in early April. Sadly, the face-to-face reunion we anticipated is delayed yet again. Wednesday night Governor Ricketts issued a broad and statewide Directed Health Measure (DHM) directing schools across Nebraska to not return to a normal status in the current school year. Instead, schools should continue to operate for the remainder of the year without students in their buildings. This statewide DHM is certainly a disappointment, but it does clarify the path we are on for the rest of the school year. Additional information will be sent through email
Dear Parents, Students, and School Personnel, Thank you for your ongoing support of your children and our school ministry during this ever-evolving situation in our community and nation. The Lutheran Schools of Lincoln administrators met again today in an effort to share a unified communication with our school families. Lincoln and Lancaster County are now under a Directive Health Measure (DHM) until at least May 6. The Nebraska Department of Education Commissioner has strongly encouraged schools to plan to offer only distance learning instruction for the remainder of the school year. The NDE can only suggest a course of action for schools. Right now we must abide by the DHM for our local community. With a DHM in place, we know for certain we are unable to return to campus before May 7 unless renewed, extended or terminated by community leaders. We continue to hold out hope we will be able to return to our campuses, even if only briefly. It is our desire to allow families, students, and faculty time to see one another and celebrate the conclusion of a successful year together. Please check email for additional information.
Starting Monday 3/30, the school's office will be open ONLY on Monday and Thursday from 10 am -2 pm. We will be available via email every weekday. If you need to connect with someone in the office or need to pick up something from a teacher other than during those days and times, you will have to make an appointment with that person. These hours will remain in effect until conditions change. Thank you for understanding.

Dear Parents, Students, and School Personnel, Thank you for your patience and understanding during this ever-evolving situation in our community and nation. The Lutheran Schools of Lincoln administrators met today so we could share a unified communication with our school families. While our initial hope was to have schools reopen March 30, we will follow recommendations from our government and health officials and remain closed for in-person instruction on our campuses until we learn that it is safe for students to return. Please check email for additional information.
For now, the school office will be open from 10 am - 2 pm Mon - Fri. This is the plan, but if the situation were to change will will send out another notification. We will ask that if you are feeling sick at all, please do NOT come into the school. SCRIP will run normally, but we ask again, if you aren't feeling well, please do not come in.
Dear Parents, Students, and School Personnel, Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented situation in our community and nation. Yesterday, our Lutheran Schools of Lincoln administrators spent time together assessing how to best continue the service you have come to expect from your schools. As part of that communication we emphasized this is a fluid situation and changes may be necessary. Yesterday afternoon, we received additional information that impacts our greater Lutheran Schools of Lincoln community. Based on this new information, we believe it is in the best interest of our children, families, and staff to close our schools for the next two weeks from March 16-27th. As we continue to collect information and move forward together, we encourage you to be transparent with your child’s school if you are monitoring any health situations in your home. Please watch for additional information!

I've had some great student-athletes throughout the years that I feel very fortunate to be a part of whether it be through teaching or coach. Many (coaching) assistants that have turned into long-term relationships. Relationships over the years that have left many memories for many years to come." "Our word for the day was smart. To play smart and stay in the moment and do our best," Ziegler said. "I kept reminding of them of that when we were down. Don't worry about win or lose, stay in the moment and stay focused."
