lunch

Lincoln Lutheran's school nutrition program's purpose is to meet the nutritional needs of students to better prepare them for learning. Our objectives are to serve nutritious, balanced, and attractive meals and to encourage healthy lifestyles.

We participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) which was established under the National School Lunch Act signed by President Harry Truman in 1946. The program celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. It is a federally assisted meal program operating in more than 94,000 public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care instructions. It provides a nutritional balanced, low-cost or free lunch to more than 26 million children each day.

Hot Lunch

We offer several healthy choices everyday. Students may choose from the main line or sandwiches. A fruit and vegetable bar is available daily. Students may choose seconds of the main entrée for an additional charge. All charges for lunch will be billed monthly through your FACTS account.

Covid-19 Notes

Although we do not currently anticipate it, there may be restrictions in place for part of this school year that require modification to our normal lunch procedures. For example, lunch staff may be required to serve items to students to avoid having all of the students touch the serving utensils. Other limitations may also be required.

Offer vs. Serve

Students are encouraged to take all five components of the mainline meal; however, only three components are required. The five components are meat/meat alternate, fruits, vegetables, grains, and fluid milk. A full serving of fruit and/or vegetables must be included in the three components. To help students fulfill this requirement, a fruit and vegetable bar is available daily.

Lunch

Students select foods that meet the strict nutritional guidelines established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Your student will find whole grains, low-fat salad dressings, and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in the lunch line. A variety of cold sandwiches is available daily. Additional specialty and theme items are offered periodically.

Ala carte

We have a variety of Smart Snack compliant baked chips, granola bars, fruit snacks, juice, water, and other items available.

Brown Bags

Sack lunches are available from the kitchen for off-site sports and activities. Please fill out an online order form at least two days before the sack lunch is needed.

Bringing in Outside Food

No identifiable restaurant food is allowed in the lunch room, as this is viewed this is viewed as being in direct competition with the National School Lunch Program.

Wellness and Nutrition Education

The Nutrition Services staff has a strong commitment to educating our students, staff, and families about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. We share wellness and nutritional tidbits with families throughout the school year.

Wellness Policy

The Lincoln Lutheran School Association Board of Directors adopted a school-wide Wellness Policy in 2006. In addition to being available on our website, copies are available on request.
