2023 “Shield of Faith”

The 2023 “Shield of Faith” is being presented on behalf of the Lutheran Education Foundation to Roger and Jan Moore

Each year this award is given to an individual or family who has generously shared their resources to support the Warrior ministry, and by their actions, have inspired others to do the same.

Roger and Jan both earned Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Nebraska; his in Business Administration and hers in Secondary Education for English and Reading.  After graduation, Roger worked for Gallup as a Business Development Consultant while Jan was a teacher at Pound Middle School.

But the couple felt a strong desire to work together in a business of their own.  So in 1980, Roger and Jan opened their first Mexican restaurant at 55th & O Streets. Now the story goes that Jan hadn’t even tasted a taco until she was nine years old!  But that didn’t stop the couple from creating a place where customers were treated as friends…or AMIGOS if you will.

With Roger as President and Jan as VP of Marketing, the couple have worked alongside one another for 43 years and together expanded the Amigos chain into 27 locations state-wide.

The Moore's are dedicated to philanthropic activities in various ministries at Messiah Lutheran Church and in the Lincoln community. They feel strongly about giving back to organizations that are educational, impact young people, and further the Kingdom of God. Jan currently serves as a trustee of the Lutheran Education Foundation and is a reading mentor with City Impact. Roger serves on the boards of the Haiti Lutheran Mission Society and the Kurt Marquart Fund. Other ministries near and dear to the Moore's include the Orphan Grain Train, Teammates, Turning Point Ministries, and of course, Lincoln Lutheran.

Roger and Jan have a special place in their hearts for Lincoln Lutheran because of the positive impact the school had on their daughters growing up. Roger and Jan recall the excitement of breaking ground for the high school expansion and fun times attending basketball and volleyball games. They feel strongly that this opportunity will continue for students in the future.

Roger says, “Being able to give is a blessing.  For us, giving back is an act of worship. It’s Biblical and it’s God’s plan for us. Both of our parents taught us to give back, and we want to show that same example to our kids and grandkids.”

Roger and Jan Moore have been married for 50 years.  They have two adult daughters and five grandchildren.
